Treatment for Myopia and Astigmatism has entered a new era with ReLEx® SMILE. This new, high precision and bladeless surgical technique uses a method called Refractive Lenticule Extraction, Small Incision Lenticule Extraction
During an eye examination, the doctor may dilate your eyes so they can look at the structures located at the back of your eye. They are looking for abnormalities that may indicate the following conditions: -High blood pressure: The retina’s blood vessels can experience damage if you have high blood pressure that goes untreated, especially long term. -Retinal detachment: This refers to the retina pulling away from the blood vessels that are attached to it. As a result, the retina gets insufficient nutrients and oxygen. -Diabetes: People with diabetes are at risk for diabetic retinopathy, especially if your high blood sugar levels are uncontrolled over the long term. This condition affects the retina’s blood vessels. -Macular degeneration: This condition is characterized by the macula element of the retina sustaining damage. It can result in vision loss that is irreversible. -Glaucoma: There are different types of glaucoma that result in damage to the optic nerve. Eye pressure getting abnormally high is the typical cause of the damage.

-Minimally invasive refractive surgery.
-Smaller incisions made [80% smaller]. Compared to LASIC which is typically about 20mm, the Reflex smile incision is 4mm or less.
-There is no corneal flap cutting, and minimal pressure is applied to the eye, making ReLEx® SMILE the most painless procedure compared to traditional techniques.
-Less risks for complications that usually come with cutting the corneal flap. ReLEx® SMILE is minimally-invasive, so patients can expect much fewer complications after surgery.
-ReLEx® SMILE can correct myopia to 1000 (-10D) and astigmatism to 500 (or -5.00 D). ReLEx® SMILE is an advanced option for patients with shortsightedness and/or astigmatism with contact lens intolerance and thinner cornea.
-Suitable for patients with thin corneas, corneal stability is retained
ReLEx® SMILE uses only one type of laser (a femtosecond laser) to separate inner corneal tissue to be a 3D shape (lenticule). The lenticule is then removed through a small corneal surface incision of 2-4 millimeters, which reshapes the cornea and improves visual acuity. This incision technique also allows for faster healing time while reducing irritation of the eye. ReLEx® SMILE promises to produce better results with fewer complications, done in about minutes from start to finish
Do not wear contact lenses. Do not wear any eye makeup. Foreign molecules in makeup can irritate your eye and may get in the way of the surgery. Arrange for someone to pick you up
Most patients can expect to return to normal activities within a couple of days after surgery.
The risk of complications is extremely rare because of our high quality and hygiene standards. To ensure the best healing results it is extremely important that the patient comes to the follow-up examinations and follows the advice and instructions received from us after the treatment. The rare side effects that can occur with laser vision correction are typically only temporary, harmless and fully treatable. These include; dry eyes, halos, glares, fluctuation in vision, and lenticule Complications
Is Reflex Smile better than LASIK?
At the ReLEx smile procedure the corneal opening (2 mm) is significantly smaller than with LASIK (20 mm). The cornea remains stable and the tear flow remains intact.
What is femtosecond technology?
The ReLEx smile procedure is exclusively performed by a femtosecond laser (VisuMax from Zeiss). The femtosecond technology is worldwide recognized as the state-of-the-art, the safest and the most precise method for the correction of visual disorders.
Is there an age limit for laser eye surgery?
With laser eye surgery, a minimum age of 18 is required.
Will I be able to see clearly after treatment?
As a rule, one day after the procedure you will be able to see 80-90% of what you were able to see with your glasses/contacts before treatment and within 3 days you should have perfect vision.
