Overview of

Q-Switch Ruby Laser

in Thailand

The Q-Switch Ruby Laser works to eliminate skin abnormalities, such as pigmented skin lesions, as well as tattoos (especially those that are green or blue in color).

The procedure involves delivering short yet powerful pulses with a wavelength of 695-nm to the target areas, and it is quite similar to the Nd:YAG laser treatment. The ruby laser treatment is also much more effective when compared to alternative Q-Switch procedures.

Q-Switch Ruby Laser

The Q-Switch ruby laser is used to treat:

  • Freckles
  • Birthmarks, such as Ota’s nevus and Café-au-lait macules (CALMs)
  • Tattoos of all colors, especially those that are blue or green
  • Solar lentigines (also known as sun spots) as a result of overexposure to the sun

Pros and cons of

Q-Switch Ruby Laser

Pros

Q-Switch Ruby Laser Improves the appearance of your skin, boosting self-esteem

- smooths and softens your skin by:

  1. Reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and irregularities such as acne scars and stretch marks
  2. Treating areas of sun damage and skin discoloration, as well as vascular lesions
  3. Tightening areas of loose, sagging skin on the face and other parts of the body

Other than that, Q-Switch Ruby Laser:

  • Treats facial pigmented dermatoses - The laser is effective in treating epidermal pigmentation due to facial birthmarks.
  • Evens out your skin tone - It is also effective in balancing out your skin tone by getting rid of dead skin cells and blemishes.
  • Removes tattoos - The Q-Switch laser technology works wonders when it comes to tattoo removal as other laser treatments may darken the skin and contribute to scarring. The Q-Switch laser precisely targets and breaks down the tattoo pigment, which will then be naturally excreted by the body.
  • Reduces unwanted hair growth - Treatment can permanently reduce the growth of unwanted hair on many areas of the body, such as the face, underarm areas, and bikini line.
  • Results are long-lasting - You can expect your results to last for about three years, so long as you practice proper skin hygiene and maintain a regular cleansing routine.
  • Minimal side effects - Treatment will be carried out in a controlled environment by expert professionals, so the possibility of experiencing side effects during the procedure is very small.

Cons

  • Can be uncomfortable: You may experience mild discomfort when undergoing tattoo removal with the Q-Switch laser.
  • Side effects may be experienced post-treatment: You may notice some bruising or burn-like redness in the treated areas after the procedure, which will usually take a week to disappear. Shallow, crusty blisters may also appear on your skin, which will typically heal in about 7 to 10 days. Patients are encouraged to take necessary time off from school or work to allow for adequate healing time.
  • Pain: Some patients reported a mild pain sensation during the laser treatment, and some skin burn or redness after the treatment.
  • Skin sensitivity: After the surgery, the skin becomes sensitive in direct exposure to sunlight and use of sunblock is recommended to prevent skin damage from the UV light.
  • Risk of increased pigmentation: Hyperpigmentation may occur if the laser surgery treatment area has an open wound or cut. Other than that, some patients experience darkened skin or appearance of black spots around the treatment area. Patients with a natural dark complexion are at higher risk of getting skin pigmentation and discoloration as a result of the laser. Please consult your doctor and weight your options.
  • You may need to commit to multiple treatments: Depending on your treatment goals and treatment plan, some patients may have to undergo the Q-Switch Ruby Laser treatment for multiple times.
  • Need for long-term maintenance: To maintain the best treatment results, you'll need to return for subsequent follow up treatments as advised by your doctor. Preventive maintenance will help you avoid adverse effects such as darkening spots or appearance of permanent white spots.

Risks & side effects of

Q-Switch Ruby Laser

Bruising or redness in the treated areas may be experienced after treatment, but these effects typically subside in a week or so.

FAQs:

Q-Switch Ruby Laser

Does the laser remove colored tattoos?

Yes, it does. Depending on the color of the tattoo (red, yellow, orange, purple, or black), varying wavelengths will be used to completely remove them.

Will this procedure be painful?

Although tattoo removal with lasers does cause some mild discomfort, the procedure is not painful. In fact, many patients actually liken it to getting a tattoo done, or being snapped by a small rubber band.

What can I expect after the Q-Switch treatment?

During the procedure, you may notice the treatment areas briefly turning greyish or white as a result of the laser energy being absorbed by your skin tissues. If your skin is particularly pigmented, you might notice some bruises post-treatment together with shallow, crusty blisters. Healing will usually take around 7 to 10 days, during which you may notice the treated area turning pinkish as it blends with the surrounding skin.

There are rare instances in which healing may take a couple of weeks, resulting in the skin being more vulnerable to damage from sun exposure. It typically takes some time for the pigmentation to settle before your skin finally heals and returns to its normal form.

Are there any restrictions to getting the treatment?

The Q-switch laser treatment works well for individuals, both young and old, who would like to treat wrinkles or skin discoloration, or get tattoos removed. It is a very safe procedure, which produces extremely minimal side effects. As such, there are no restrictions or any particular requirements to get the treatment done.

How many treatments are recommended to achieve optimum results?

To achieve maximum benefit from the treatment, it is recommended to attend three to five treatment sessions scheduled two to four weeks apart. This may vary depending on your unique situation and skin condition. Visible results will usually be noticed after about two to three sessions.
