Overview of

Liposuction (Both thighs)

in Thailand

Liposuction of the thigh is a widely used form of cosmetic treatment that involves the removal of excess fat surrounding the inner and outer thighs. It is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed using specialized surgical suctioning equipment.

This slimming treatment is usually done to remove unwanted fat and slim down the size of the thighs when regular exercise and lifestyle changes are no longer effective.

Goals of

Liposuction (Both thighs)

Most patients who undergo thigh liposuction aim to enhance their appearance and improve their body shape by contouring and slimming down their thighs.

In addition to this, liposuction of the thigh is also performed to help treat and remove lipomas. These are benign and non-cancerous tumors that often form just between the skin and the muscle layers.

Liposuction is often performed on the inner thigh since unwanted fat often accumulates in this area. However, many patients also undergo liposuction on the outer thigh, particularly on the back part near the side and the buttocks.

  • Liposuction gets rid of stubborn body fats when regular exercise and lifestyle changes are not effective.
  • This cosmetic procedure works wonders in lifting a person's confidence and self-esteem.
  • Liposuction is effective in permanently removing excess fat in the body.
  • This type of cosmetic treatment is also widely used to help treat various medical conditions such as lipomas, gynecomastias (enlargement of male breast tissues), lymphedema (lymph fluid build-up within the tissues), and lipodystrophy syndrome ( abnormal distribution of adipose tissues in the body).

Cons

  • Some minor post-operative complications may occur after the surgery such as marks or hyperpigmentation on the incision site, bruises, pain, and swelling. Although these effects may cause discomfort,  they are often mild and temporary.
  • As with any other surgical procedure,  some serious complications may also arise with liposuction. This includes infection on the surgical or puncture sites, severe fluid imbalance, skin necrosis or death of the skin and surrounding tissues, accidental puncturing of an organ during the procedure, and in more serious cases, anaphylactic shock that comes with an allergy to the medicines given before, during, or after the surgery. While these complications are serious and can be life-threatening, they very rarely occur and as we speak, hundreds of liposuction procedures are being performed safely and successfully worldwide.

How it works:

Liposuction (Both thighs)

The duration of the surgery and type of anesthesia administered during a liposuction procedure depends on certain factors such as the size of the affected area and the amount of fat that needs to be removed. A simple procedure may take only one to three hours to finish.

Local anesthesia is often used and the patient may not be required to stay in the hospital.

On the other hand, extensive liposuction procedures require that a patient undergoes general anesthesia. These types of surgeries are more complicated and usually require a minimum of four hours to complete.

In addition to this, extensive liposuctions are also associated with a higher risk for complications. For this reason, an extensive liposuction procedure is generally not recommended unless necessary.

During surgery, a cannula is inserted through a small incision and attached to a vacuum which suctions the fat from the body.

There are a few techniques associated with performing liposuction. Most common of which is the Tumescent Liposuction technique which makes use of a sterile solution injected into the surgical site where fat is to be removed. This solution helps minimize pain and blood loss during surgery and allows easier suctioning of fat.

To help lessen pain and edema after surgery, a compression bandage is used to wrap around the thighs. This also ensures better circulation and hastens the recovery process.

Preparation before

Liposuction (Both thighs)

Pre - treatment

Before surgery, it is important to have a detailed discussion with the physician to fully understand important details such as the techniques to be used, expectations, possible complications, and desired outcomes.

A thorough medical history should identify possible allergic reactions, and this will be the basis when administering pre-operative and post-operative medications.

Generally, aspirin and other pain medications should be avoided at least a week before surgery, to avoid the possibility of excessive bleeding and other related complications. The physician will also recommend certain laboratory tests to evaluate whether a patient is fit enough to undergo treatment.

Additional instructions may involve some lifestyle changes such as getting enough rest, avoiding tobacco products, and eating nutritious food to help ensure a quick and smooth recovery process.

Recovery after

Liposuction (Both thighs)

Post - treatment

To ensure quick healing and recovery after the surgery, the following recommendations should be considered :

  • get enough rest and avoid strenuous activities for a couple of days after surgery. The body needs to recover from the physical trauma of the operation and therefore needs time to recover. Regular exercise can be gradually incorporated into your daily routine after a few days of rest.
  • compression bandages help protect treated areas from edema and contour the thighs to their new shape. However, removing these may be uncomfortable and can sometimes cause lightheadedness. To prevent this from happening, there has to be at least ten minutes of an interval between removing the two garments.
  • it is recommended to have a few drains in the incision site to avoid the accumulation of excess fluids. This also helps alleviate edema and bruising on the affected area.
  • post-operative medications should be taken as instructed and the schedule of intake should be strictly followed.
  • incision sites should be washed with soap and water and kept clean at all times to avoid the possibility of post-operative infection.
  • during the recovery phase, the skin on the affected thigh may still be numb. For this reason, patients are prohibited to use any form of external pain relief such as ice packs, heating pads, and bandages to avoid the possibility of burning or freezing the skin.
  • aspirin, ibuprofen, and other anti-inflammatory medications have a blood-thinning effect and should therefore be avoided after surgery to avoid bleeding and weakening of the immune system.

FAQs:

Liposuction (Both thighs)

Who are the best candidates for liposuction?
The best candidates for liposuction are healthy individuals with normal body weight but have problem areas with presence of excess body fat. Eligibility is often decided by the physician following a complete physical and medical examination.

People with underlying conditions such as bleeding disorders and cardiovascular diseases are discouraged to undergo this type of an operation because of the higher risk for complications.

How long is recovery from thigh liposuction?
Recovery time usually depends on factors such as the amount of fat that was removed and the area treated. Recovery from minor liposuction is usually 7-10 days while the more extensive type of treatment may take two weeks before full recovery.

What causes thigh fat build up?

  • Weight – being overweight generally means consuming more calories than what you burn from regular activities, which causes an increase in weight and fat build-up on various parts of the body. Simply put, the more excess weight, the more excess fat. Common areas where this stubborn fat takes refuge are in the chin, the breasts, the buttocks, and of course, the thighs.
  • Gender – generally, women have a higher chance of storing excess fat in the body than men. Many factors like pregnancy and hormone changes can slow down a women's metabolic process, which in turn increases the likelihood of fat building up. Common problem areas include the tummy, buttocks, arms, and thighs.

Genetics – studies show that a person's genetics is a major factor in deciding predisposition to being overweight. Because this makes a person's weight loss journey more challenging, many people still end up with stubborn fat deposits in their bodies in spite of rigorous lifestyle adjustments.

Is this procedure safe?
For many years, liposuction has been the go-to option for many individuals who seek help in removing stubborn fat deposits. With the advancement in the field of medical science, this form of cosmetic treatment has become safer than ever with very minimal risks.
